What affects a car's value?
Understanding these factors will help you better estimate your car's price and prepare it for sale.
Age and depreciation
A car loses ~24% of its value in the first year. After 5 years – about 60%. Depreciation slows with age, but certain years (3, 5, 10) are critical milestones.
Mileage
Average mileage is 15,000 km/year. Lower mileage = higher value. Psychological thresholds of 100,000 km and 200,000 km strongly affect price.
Fuel type and gearbox
Diesel cars are still popular in Lithuania. Hybrids and EVs command a premium. Automatic transmission usually adds 5-10% to the value.
Condition and options
A car in excellent condition can cost 10-15% more. Service history, navigation, leather interior — all raise the value.

How is the car's value determined?
▼
Value is determined from market data: make, model, year, mileage, fuel type, gearbox and overall condition. We use standard depreciation curves and Lithuanian market demand indicators.
Why price ranges instead of an exact figure?
▼
The exact price is set by buyer and seller during negotiation. The range shows the most realistic interval based on spec, service history and precise condition.
How much does the valuation cost?
▼
Our calculator is completely free and non-binding. You get the result instantly — no registration or email confirmation required.
Does the calculator work for every brand?
▼
Yes, it works for all popular brands in Lithuania: Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Škoda, Hyundai, Kia, Volvo and many more.
How does mileage affect value?
▼
The average annual mileage in Lithuania is about 15,000 km. Lower mileage means higher value; after psychological thresholds (100,000 km, 200,000 km) the value drops faster.
Does color affect price?
▼
Popular colors (black, white, grey) can have a small positive effect. Bright or unusual colors can reduce the pool of potential buyers.
How much does a car depreciate per year?
▼
In the first year a car loses 24-25% of value on average. After three years depreciation is ~45%, and after five years ~60% of the new-car price.
What is residual value?
▼
Residual value is the amount a car is worth at the end of a leasing or rental period. It matters when calculating monthly leasing payments.
Is it better to sell privately or through a middleman?
▼
Selling privately can get a higher price but takes more time. Middlemen and buyers offer a faster deal but typically pay 5-15% less.
How to prepare a car for sale?
▼
Clean the car, fix minor issues, gather service records. Good presentation and transparent history increase buyer trust and the final price.
Can I use an old car as a leasing down payment?
▼
Yes, many leasing companies accept cars as trade-ins. WHEELSTREET helps you value your car and use that value as a down payment for new leasing.
When is the best time to sell a car?
▼
Best time is spring and September, when demand peaks. Avoid December-January when the market slows. It also helps to sell before key depreciation thresholds (3, 5, 10 years).
